Freya: name numerology

Enter a name and a date of birth — the same engine that produced this page does the arithmetic.

The number costs nothing and asks for no address. The written reading is free as well — it asks for an email, because that is where the document is sent.

The answer appears right on this screen — no email is needed for that.

The same name, counted four different ways — and only the fourth touches your date.

All four arrive as one document. Each chapter says first what that number describes for anybody, and only then reads the one your letters produced; the same file comes to your email as a PDF made for printing.

This page counts one spelling of one name. The document says what that costs the method — spell the name another way and the numbers move with it — and it says so in the first chapter, not in a footnote at the end.

4 chapters

  • What the whole name adds up to
  • What the vowels are said to want
  • What the consonants show first
  • Where the tradition has the two numbers meet

You can read the whole document before you type anything: a complete example is published for an invented date — the same file you receive, open to the last chapter.

Freya adds to 28 and folds to an Expression of 1. F and R give a Personality of 6, and the vowel column — E, Y and A, with Y counted as a vowel — reaches exactly 9 with nothing to fold.

The breakdown above uses this language’s letter table. The Soul Urge is built from a separate vowel cipher, so adding up the values in this list will not reproduce it.

A title that turned into a name

Freyja in Old Norse is not originally a personal name at all but a common noun meaning lady or mistress, used of the goddess in the same way that the related Freyr means lord. Norse settlement left the word in northern English dialects, and the modern given name is a nineteenth and twentieth-century revival rather than a continuous tradition. It is sixth in England and Wales and much rarer in the United States.

Two heavy consonants and three light vowels

F is 6, R is 9, E is 5, Y is 7 and A is 1. Twenty-eight folds through 10 to 1, which takes two steps rather than the usual one. F and R together are 15, more than half the name, and they fold to 6. The vowel side is where Y changes column: the soul cipher treats it as a vowel worth 5, so E at 3, Y at 5 and A at 1 give exactly 9. Nine is the largest single digit, reached here without any reduction at all.

Is Freyja spelled with a J the same?

No. Adding a J puts one more into the total, and because the soul cipher counts J as a vowel it lands in the vowel column too.

Why does the Expression take two folding steps?

Twenty-eight reduces to ten, which is still two digits, so it reduces again to one. Most totals reach a single digit in one step.

Does Freya relate to Friday?

The day is named for a Norse goddess, though which one is disputed. Either way the etymology has no bearing on the five letters counted here.
