From flower to emblem to name
The word is Old English popæg, from Latin papaver, and it named the plant for a thousand years before anyone named a child with it. British use as a given name follows the Victorian flower fashion, and its later associations with remembrance from 1921 kept it visible without displacing the plant. It is seventh in England and Wales and almost unused in the United States, which is one of the sharpest splits between the two rankings.
One letter, three times, most of the name
P is 7, O is 6, and then P, P and Y at 7, 7 and 7. Three P letters carry 21 of the 34, which is the largest share any repeated letter takes on this site. The full total folds to 7, the same digit as the letter that dominates it. Those three P letters are also the whole consonant column, and 21 folds to 3. Do the three P letters each count in full?
They do, at seven apiece. Repetition is not discounted, which is why a name with a tripled heavy letter reaches thirty-four in five characters.
Why is the Personality so much smaller than the total?
Because twenty-one folds to three in one step. A large consonant sum can reduce further than a small one and often does.
Is Poppie the same?
No. Swapping the final Y for I and E adds letters and changes the vowel column, so the Soul Urge moves along with the total.
