A city, then a nurse, then a name
Latin Florentia means blossoming, and it named both a saint and the city on the Arno. Florence Nightingale was born there in 1820 and given the city as a name, which was unusual enough at the time to be remarked on; her fame then turned it into an ordinary English girls name within a generation. It faded after 1930 and returned sharply in the 2010s, and it now sits fifth in England and Wales while remaining rare in the United States.
Forty-two, and a vowel column at the floor
