The breakdown above uses this language’s letter table. The Soul Urge is built from a separate vowel cipher, so adding up the values in this list will not reproduce it.

A city, then a nurse, then a name

Latin Florentia means blossoming, and it named both a saint and the city on the Arno. Florence Nightingale was born there in 1820 and given the city as a name, which was unusual enough at the time to be remarked on; her fame then turned it into an ordinary English girls name within a generation. It faded after 1930 and returned sharply in the 2010s, and it now sits fifth in England and Wales while remaining rare in the United States.

Forty-two, and a vowel column at the floor

F is 6, L is 3, O is 6, R is 9, E is 5, N is 5, C is 3 and the final E is 5. R at 9 and F and O at 6 each account for half of the 42, which folds through 6 in one step. The consonant column — F, L, R, N and C — reaches 26 and folds to 8, the largest of the three figures. The vowels do the opposite: O is 4 in the soul cipher and each E is 3, which is ten exactly, and ten reduces to 1.

Do Flo and Flossie count as this name?

They do not. Each is a shorter string with its own total, and short forms are always calculated as the letters actually written.

Why is the Soul Urge the smallest figure?

Three vowels that happen to sum to ten fold to one, the lowest result available. One point either way would have given a larger digit.

Is the Italian Firenze related for the calculation?

Only historically. Firenze is a different string of letters and would be read against the same table to a completely different total.
