A Roman first name, not a family one
Marcus was a praenomen, the personal name a Roman answered to, drawn from a pool so small that a dozen or so covered the entire citizenry. It is usually traced to Mars, though the Romans left no explanation on record. The Gospel attributed to Mark carried it across Europe, and English kept the short form while Marc, Marcus and Markus circulate beside it. Marc swaps K for C and totals 17; Markus adds two letters and lands elsewhere again.
Three consonants and one vowel
M is 4, A is 1, R is 9, K is 2 — sixteen in all, reducing to 7. R supplies more than half of that on its own. The consonants add to 15 and fold to 6. The vowel column holds exactly one entry, so a quarter of the spelling decides the Soul Urge; A is worth 1 in the cipher just as in the table above, which is unusual, since most vowels are repriced between the two. Is Marc the same calculation?
No. C is worth 3 where K is worth 2, so the total shifts by one and the Expression with it. The Soul Urge stays at 1, since the vowel is untouched.
Does the Cyrillic Марк produce these numbers?
No. Those four letters read through the Russian table come to 12 and an Expression of 3, and through the Ukrainian table to 18 and a 9. Only the Soul Urge survives all three.
Why does one letter decide the Soul Urge?
Because the name contains exactly one vowel, and that number is built from vowels alone. The arithmetic is sound; it simply describes a quarter of the spelling.
