A Roman first name, not a family one
Marcus was a praenomen, the personal name a Roman answered to, drawn from a pool so small that a dozen or so covered the entire citizenry. It is usually traced to Mars, though the Romans left no explanation on record. The Gospel attributed to Mark carried it across Europe, and English kept the short form while Marc, Marcus and Markus circulate beside it. Does the Cyrillic Марк produce these numbers?
No. Those four letters read through the Russian table come to 12 and an Expression of 3, and through the Ukrainian table to 18 and a 9. Only the Soul Urge survives all three.
