Vera, letter by letter
Each letter carries its value from this language’s table. They add to 19, which reduces to an Expression number of 1.
| Letter | Value |
|---|---|
| v | 4 |
| e | 5 |
| r | 9 |
| a | 1 |
| Total | 19 |
The breakdown above uses this language’s letter table. The Soul Urge is built from a separate vowel cipher, so adding up the values in this list will not reproduce it.
Two origin stories, neither settled
Vera entered English use in the nineteenth century and its history is told two ways. One account traces it to the Russian name, the noun for faith, carried over by translated fiction; the other reads it as Latin vera, the feminine of verus, true. Reference works cite both, and this page picks neither — the letters weigh what they weigh regardless of which story is right.
Nineteen, and where it splits
The four letters are worth 4, 5, 9 and 1. R at 9 carries almost half the name by itself, and the total of 19 reduces to an Expression of 1. V and R come to 13, which reduces to a Personality of 4. The vowels use the separate cipher rather than the table printed above: E is 5 in the breakdown but 3 in the cipher, while A is 1 in both, so the Soul Urge is 4 as well. Two of the three numbers match without sharing a letter — one built from consonants, the other from vowels.

Is Vera counted the same as Cyrillic Вера?
No. The Cyrillic spelling is read against the Russian table, where those four letters carry other values, so all three numbers come out different.
Do Verity and Veronica share anything with it?
Only the opening letters. Both are longer spellings with different letter sets, and a shared beginning does not carry over into the sums.
Why do two of the numbers land on 4?
The consonants total 13 and the vowel cipher totals 4; both reduce to the same digit. It is an accident of arithmetic, not a property of the name.
