A Scottish place, and a name only recently
Isla is the island of Islay in the Inner Hebrides, or the river Isla that runs through Angus and Perthshire, and in both cases the S has been silent for as long as anyone has written it down. It was a place before it was ever a person, and it became a given name only in the twentieth century, which is late even by the standards of place names. It is fourth in England and Wales and twenty-eighth in the United States.
One letter carrying two thirds of the name
I is 9, S is 1, L is 3 and A is 1. The opening I is nine of the fourteen by itself, and the three letters after it add five between them. Fourteen folds to 5. The consonants S and L make 4 with nothing to reduce. Does the silent S count?
