Amelia, letter by letter
Each letter carries its value from this language’s table. They add to 23, which reduces to an Expression number of 5.
| Letter | Value |
|---|---|

| m | 4 |
| e | 5 |
| l | 3 |
| i | 9 |
| a | 1 |
| Total | 23 |
The breakdown above uses this language’s letter table. The Soul Urge is built from a separate vowel cipher, so adding up the values in this list will not reproduce it.
Two unrelated names that merged
Amelia looks like one name and is two. The Germanic side is Amalia, built on amal, meaning work or effort, and it travelled with the House of Hanover into Britain. The Latin side is Aemilia, the feminine of a Roman clan name from aemulus, a rival. Neither is a form of the other; they simply converged on a spelling that suited English mouths. Amelia Earhart carried the merged version, and it now ranks in the top five in both the United States and England and Wales.
A name that is mostly vowel
A, M, E, L, I and A read 1, 4, 5, 3, 9 and 1. Twenty-three is a small total for six letters, and it folds to 5. What makes this name unusual is the ratio: four vowels against two consonants, so the soul column is doing most of the counting. In the cipher A is 1, E is 3 and I is 6, which gives 1 plus 3 plus 6 plus 1, eleven, and a 2. The remaining M and L reach 7 exactly, with nothing to reduce.

Is Emilia a different name here?
For the arithmetic, yes. Swapping the opening A for an E moves that letter from 1 to 5 in the table and from 1 to 3 in the cipher, so the total and the soul figure both shift.
Why is the total so low for six letters?
Because five of the six sit in the light half of the table. Only the I is worth more than five, and A appears twice at the minimum value of one.
Does Amy count as a short form?
Amy has its own history, from the French Aimée, and only three letters. It is calculated separately and shares none of the figures on this page.
