The pearl and the daisy
Greek margarites meant pearl, and it was a loanword in Greek before it was anything else: an eastern trade term that arrived with the goods, traceable back through Iranian to Sanskrit. Latin carried it into the church calendars of Europe, where it produced Margarethe, Małgorzata, Marguerite and Margaret. The French form doubles as the word for a daisy, which is how the nickname Daisy attached itself to a name that otherwise shortens to Maggie, Meg, Peggy or Greta. This page is about the eight-letter English spelling; Spanish Margarita is a different string of letters and a different sum.
Two R’s carry half the total
The eight letters add to 38, which folds twice: 3 plus 8 is 11, and 11 folds again to 2. R appears twice at 9 each, so one repeated letter accounts for 18 of the 38, and G at 7 pushes the consonants to 31 and a Personality of 4. The vowels are A, A and E, and the cipher prices A at 1 and E at 3, for a Soul Urge of 5. No. Margarita has nine letters and ends in A, so the total, the vowel set and all three results differ from the English spelling shown here.
Why does the Expression number fold twice?
Because 38 gives 11 on the first pass, and 11 is still two digits, so it goes round again to 2. Longer names reach double folds fairly often.
Do Maggie and Peggy share Margaret’s numbers?
No. Each nickname is its own string of letters, and Peggy does not even share an initial with the name it grew out of.
