An Arabic name and an English word from one root
Amina is the feminine of Arabic amin, trustworthy or faithful, built on the triliteral root a-m-n. The same three consonants give aman, safety, iman, faith, and amin — the word English borrowed through Hebrew and Greek as amen. Amina and amen are therefore linguistic relatives, which is a fact about Semitic word-building rather than about anyone who carries the name. It was borne by the mother of the Prophet Muhammad, which is part of why it spread across the Arabic-speaking world, and it now appears in English-language birth records every year.
