Zoya reaches English from Greek zoe, life, by way of Russian, and the two spellings coexist in use: Zoe is the older Greek form, Zoya the Slavic one. For the calculation they are not variants — four letters against three, and a Y where Zoe has an E. Nothing in the method treats a shared Greek source as grounds for merging two spellings. No. Zoe has three letters and ends in E, so the total and the vowel set both differ. A shared Greek origin does not merge two spellings.
Why does Y count as a vowel?
The table treats Y as a vowel for the Soul Urge, which is why Zoya has one consonant. That is a convention of the method, not a claim about pronunciation.
Does the Cyrillic spelling produce these numbers?
No. Зоя is three Cyrillic letters valued by the Russian table, and all three results land somewhere else than they do here.
