Artemis, Artemios and a shortened form
The Greek source is Artemios, formed on the name of Artemis, goddess of the hunt and of wild country. Church Slavonic kept the long form, which Russian writes Artemy and Ukrainian Artemiy, while everyday speech wore it down to Artem, and that short version is what appears on passports today. English has no native form of this name at all, so it borrows the Cyrillic spelling directly — and unusually for a Slavic name, both Cyrillic languages transliterate to the very same five Latin letters.
