The same name arriving twice
Hebrew Ya‘aqov became Greek Iakobos and Latin Iacobus, and spoken Latin then softened the b to an m, producing Iacomus. That second form travelled through French into English as James, while the older one came separately as Jacob. English therefore has the same name twice over and treats the two as unrelated. Six Scottish and English kings carried it, and it is currently sixth in the United States and in the low forties in England and Wales.
