A goddess inside a man’s name
The Greek original is Demetrios, belonging to Demeter, goddess of grain and harvest — one of very few common men’s names built directly on the name of a goddess. English met it late and through Russian, which is why the Latin spelling never settled: Dmitry, Dmitri, Dmitriy and Dimitri all appear on documents and in library catalogues. Ukrainian passports write Dmytro, from a Cyrillic form with a different ending. Each of those is its own string of letters and its own arithmetic.
Four consonants and two borrowed vowels
In the main table D is 4, M is 4, I is 9, T is 2, R is 9 and Y is 7, so the six letters come to 35 and an Expression of 8. Is Dmitri the same as Dmitry?
Same name, different spelling. Dmitri ends in I rather than Y, which lifts the total from 35 to 37 and moves the Expression from 8 to 1, though the Personality stays at 1.
Does Dmytro give these numbers?
No. The Ukrainian transliteration totals 32 for an Expression of 5. Only the Personality matches, because D, M, T and R survive the changed ending untouched.
Is Dima counted on its own?
Yes. Four letters instead of six, and it loses both R and the final Y, so the total falls to 18 and every one of the three numbers moves.
