Mateo: name numerology

Enter a name and a date of birth — the same engine that produced this page does the arithmetic.

The answer appears right on this screen — no email is needed for that.

The same name, counted four different ways — and only the fourth touches your date.

All four arrive as one document. Each chapter says first what that number describes for anybody, and only then reads the one your letters produced; the same file comes to your email as a PDF made for printing.

This page counts one spelling of one name. The document says what that costs the method — spell the name another way and the numbers move with it — and it says so in the first chapter, not in a footnote at the end.

4 chapters

  • What the whole name adds up to
  • What the vowels are said to want
  • What the consonants show first
  • Where the tradition has the two numbers meet

You can read the whole document before you type anything: a complete example is published for an invented date — the same file you receive, open to the last chapter.

Mateo adds to 18 and folds to an Expression of 9. M and T are the only consonants, leaving a Personality of 6, and the three vowels reach 8 in the soul cipher with nothing to fold.

The Spanish route into English

Mateo is the Spanish form of the name English writes as Matthew, and it reached the American registers through Spanish-speaking families rather than through the English tradition. Spanish dropped the doubled consonant and the final W sound, which is why the two spellings look so different for the same name. It reached the American top ten in 2025 and is now the highest-ranked name on this site that English took from Spanish rather than from French or Latin.

Eighteen, and a clean nine

M is 4, A is 1, T is 2, E is 5 and O is 6. Eighteen folds to 9 in one step, as any total whose digits add to nine does. With three vowels out of five letters the consonant column is short: M and T give 6 and stay there. In the soul cipher A holds at 1, E drops from 5 to 3 and O from 6 to 4, so the three vowels reach 8 exactly. All three figures on this page are single-step results from small sums.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Does Mateo match Matthew?

It does not. Matthew has seven letters including a doubled T and a W, so the total is much larger and the three figures are entirely different.

What about the Italian Matteo?

That spelling doubles the T, which adds two to the total and two to the consonant column, moving the Expression and the Personality.

Why is the Expression the largest figure here?

Because it counts all five letters while the other two split them. Eighteen folds to nine, the highest single digit available.
