Elijah, Elias and Ilya
The Hebrew original is Eliyahu, my God is Yahweh. English inherited two lines from it: Elijah, closer to the Hebrew and carried by the King James translation, and Elias, which came through Greek. Slavic languages took the Greek line and wore it down to Ilya. So Elijah and Ilya are the same name by descent and nothing alike as strings — six letters against four, in different alphabets read from different tables.
Why J counts with the vowels
This tradition treats Y and J as vowels in English — a rule about the method, not about spelling — and Elijah is where it shows. Only L and H are left on the consonant side; at 3 and 8 they add to 11 and give a Personality of 2. The vowel side, E, I, J and A, is read from the soul cipher — 3, 6, 1 and 1 — which also comes to 11 and also reduces to 2. In the main table the six letters run 5, 3, 9, 1, 1 and 8, totalling 27, so the Expression is 9. Move J across to the consonants and two of those three numbers change.

Is Elijah the same name as Ilya?
By origin yes, by calculation no. Different alphabets, different tables and different letter counts leave the two spellings with nothing in common numerically.
Why is J treated as a vowel?
It is a convention of this method for English, alongside Y. The page follows it and says so, because counting J as a consonant would give different figures.
Does Eli give the same result?
No. Eli is three letters and drops the J, A and H, which changes the total and the vowel set at once.
